Minimalistic industrial chic are the words that come to my mind when I think of Upton 43 . Just before the brutal winter hit Minnesota, I had a lovely brunch at one of Linden Hill’s newest additions. For some reason when we tried to make a reservation on the phone, the girl on the line sounded busy, putting us on hold for a good amount of time. We almost didn’t go to Upton 43 thinking there would be a long line but glad we did! We were seated immediately once we arrived.
We got our coffees and jumped right into the menu. I love Scandinavian style. They are minimalist in everything including their menus. It does make it really easy to order your food but don’t be fooled by that. Everything on the menu sounded really good so although there were just few things in the menu, it was still hard to make the decision.
We ended getting a Gravlax Benedict and egg omelette with Truffle Gouda from the mains. Needless to say we enjoyed our meals. Both our meal came with a small side of greens.
I usually like egg benedict and this was no exception. The bearnaise sauce complemented the salmon really well. I loved the potatoes seasoned with sea-salt (I believe) that came with the benedict. Savoriness of potatoes went well with the mild flavors of salmon.
I took a bite of the omelette and it was equally good. It came with melted truffle gouda and walnuts sprinkled with chives. Out of the two we ordered, I still preferred mine, gravlax benedict.
One of the things I liked about this place is the space itself. This place is very tranquil, almost relaxing. This is good place to have no distraction conversation. The only distraction would be your food. We were there for literally hours. Our conversation kept getting longer as the coffee kept coming. We probably over stayed because people around us kept changing. But our host never once showed us the sign to leave. Rather, he kept refilling our cups. We thoroughly enjoyed this place.
I have heard good things about dinner at Upton 43. I will definitely be coming back.
