Tullibee is another new addition to the historic warehouse district. It is housed in the same building as Hewing Hotel which is also a new addition to the neighborhood. Tullibee and Hewing hotel both are rather interesting places. They have somehow managed to bring the retro charm yet keeping it chic all at the same time. It is definitely a breath of fresh air to see colors and patterns when every other establishment seems to be going for minimalist route with their decor.
As usual my partner in crime who also happens to my default hand model and also a fellow brunch aficionado went to check out this place. We were there on one of the coldest days of Minnesota and all we could think of was a hot meal.
We got Brisket Hash and usual suspect Gravlax Smorrebrod along with wood fired potatoes.
Ordering Gravlax is like a tradition now. If it is on the menu, one of us has to order it just to compare it with the last one we had. Honestly saying, I have never had a bad gravlax. I guess I have a thing for 3 days old brined poultry. What I was not into was the cheese. I automatically assumed that it was goat cheese so like a picky little eater, I removed every bit of crumbled cheese that I possibly could from the salmon. I still am not sure what potted cheese means.
Brisket on the other hand were so soft that you could easily break them with a blunt end of a spoon. I savored every piece of it. The side of rye bread was pretty much a waste for me because I was stuffed with brisket and eggs.
There were few more things I really wanted to order. One being, Duck Fat Fries. The name itself makes me really curious. The description just mentions malted mayo. More mystery. More reasons to come back. (I did ask the hostess about the fries on my second visit. Basically they are regular fries cooked in duck fat).
I see this place as one of my regular places to go. (I have already been there twice for bunch within 2 weeks) I like how it is conveniently located right in downtown. Although parking might be an issue at peak hours, the walk around this neighborhood is not bad all. I like how there are ample seating areas including a bar right next to the restaurant just in case if you have to wait for your table. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.
Have you been to Tullibee?
